How to Compare Furniture

One way to find your home style is to compare the differences in a few pieces to help you determine your likes and dislikes + needs vs wants. For reference, we’ll be going through a search trail I went down a few months back when I was trying to find the best bed frame for me.

First, I like to search for furniture on high-end sites to see their inventory. Oftentimes, I’ll find a style that makes me stop scrolling like this bedframe I found on Anthropologie.com below.

I liked the delicate gold-tipped points and the metal bar that holds up the oversized pillow. However, I did not like the price. Plus, the overall bed frame has a Mid-century modern shape and isn’t really my taste and you also had to purchase the pillow as an upcharge.

The things I didn’t like about the Anthropologie bed frame encouraged me to keep looking. I restarted my search and ended up at Ikea.com.

In this style above, I liked the light-colored wood as featured in the Anthropologie bed frame and the addition of spindles behind the cushions. The angled headboard was also a cool touch too. However, I really could do without the exposed black screws on the sides but I didn’t mind the price.

I saved this link and returned to my bed frame search. I added “Spindle” to my search terms and found two wooden light-medium toned spindle bed frames below on Wayfair.com. The following two options were cool because they were similar to my first two search results with their own personality.

The angle on this one wraps the sides of the bed. This gives the bed an encompassed feeling.

The tone of wood color on this one has a nice soft wash that met what I was looking for and toned down the mid-century modern shape.

To make things more complicated, I figured it might be nice to see this bedframe in a different material. I then changed the style to metal. This brass color turns the vibe to glam. The points are refined and sharp.

I changed my search terms one last time and swapped out the brass search word for black metal.

This is what I saved. I thought it was very clean. This last product search helped me zero in on what I truly wanted even though I didn’t know what I was looking for at first until I went through the search process.

All in all, I knew I wanted a soft touch, light-colored wood, and a low headboard with an accompanied cushion.

I decided on the bed frame from Ikea and it’s perfect for me! <3
